When we last saw Jahan Dotson, it was in an Eagles victory at FedEx Field in October, when he had eight receptions for 108 yards. That would go to the Eagles.

They would even take half that, really. When the Eagles play the Falcons at the Linc on Monday night, Dotson, who made his Eagles debut in São Paulo on Friday night without recording a catch, might need to play a bigger role.

Superstar wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has been with the Eagles since 2022 and has the third-most yards in the NFL, could miss the real home opener due to a hamstring injury he sustained on Friday during practice.

The Eagles have him listed as questionable for Monday after he skipped practice on Saturday. Dotson gets to play if he is unable to. “I feel really at ease,” Dotson remarked following practice on Saturday.

We’re getting ready as though A.J. is playing right now. That’s the intention. If and when my opportunities arise, I plan to seize them completely. I was essentially recruited here to accomplish that. Utilize each and every chance that is presented to me.

Over the previous few years, the Eagles have experimented with a number of third receivers with varying degrees of success, including Julio Jones, Zach Pascal, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Quez Watkins.

Following their inability to seize control of the third outside slot throughout training camp, the Eagles acquired Dotson from the Commanders on August 22 in exchange for a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks, along with a fifth-round pick.

Dotson, the 16th pick in the 2022 draft, was a letdown for Washington. In 29 games for the Commanders, he had 84 receptions for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns. In just five of his 26 starts, he went over 60 yards, mostly playing with Sam Howell, Taylor Heinicke, and Cartson Wentz.

However, the Eagles are optimistic that Dotson can enter the game and produce enough plays to maintain the offense with quarterback Jalen Hurts and a number of other weapons next to him.

“Much more at ease in the playbook, in my position on this team,” he remarked. “I’m working on it day by day, but I’m growing more at ease every day. Thus, everything has gone well.

Against the Packers, Dotson played 30 snaps without making a reception. On one Hurts pass that was almost intercepted, he was the target.

According to Dotson, “pretty much everyone in the league runs the same things.” The biggest difference, in my opinion, is when you come from an offensive that calls something one thing, and you come to this offense, and you call something entirely another, even if it’s the exact same thing.

“Whenever someone asks, I always explain that it’s similar to learning a new language. Although hello is meant to be said in a variety of languages and ways, things are not. I can’t say it better than that.

I’ve been doing it rather well. I’m feeling really confident on Monday night. Dotson is another person that lives in the area.

Before enrolling at Penn State, where he had a stellar senior year in 2021 (91 catches, 1,182 yards, and 12 touchdowns), he attended Nazareth Area High School in Upper Nazareth, which is approximately 10 miles north of the Eagles’ former training camp headquarters at Lehigh. He also attended Peddie School in Hightstown, Mercer County, for a year.

If he does start on Monday night, it will mark the first time since Michael Timpson and Mike Zordich started the same game for the Eagles on December 14, 1997, at the Georgia Dome, also against the Falcons.

I’ve played here a few times as an opponent, but I think it will be really interesting and awesome to play here as the home team, Dotson said. Monday night is going to be really exciting. “I’m really excited about it because I love playing night games.”
