After completing her chemotherapy, Kate Middleton is opening up about her experience since receiving her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

The Princess of Wales shared a moving video message that was shot last month close to her family’s Norfolk home on Monday, September 9. It also includes Prince George, age 11, Princess Charlotte, age 9, and Prince Louis, age 6. Her spouse, Prince William, is also included.

“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Kate says in the video. “As a family, the past nine months have been really difficult. We had to figure out how to go through the rough seas and uncharted territory because life as we know it can change drastically in an instant.

The Michigan Texas game in Ann Arbor will feature two pregame activities and two celebrity guests.

“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can,” she continues.

“I have a newfound sense of hope and respect for life as I begin this new period of rehabilitation, despite everything that has come before it”.

William and I are incredibly appreciative of the help we’ve had, and we’ve found a lot of strength in everyone who is currently providing for us. It has been profoundly humbled by everyone’s warmth, sensitivity, and compassion.

“I’m still here for all of you who are enduring your own cancer journey—side by side, hand in hand. Light can emerge from darkness, therefore let that light shine brightly.”

 

People are aware that the Princess of Wales is excited to participate in a few public events in the upcoming months, but as she states in today’s letter, her priority is staying cancer-free and she will need time to fully recuperate.

For the rest of the year, she will resume a limited schedule of outside commitments, as she needs to devote all of her attention to recovering fully. In the upcoming months, Kate plans to carry out her work on early childhood initiatives from home, which she has already begun.

She has started preparations for her yearly carol concert at Westminster Abbey in December and is anticipated to join the royal family on Remembrance Day in November.

 

The touching film shows Kate Middleton in intimate, private family moments. The film focuses on their close-knit family life, from their peaceful rural drive with William and their kids to her showing her spouse love gestures. While undergoing treatment, Kate finds comfort in nature by resting on William’s shoulder while they watch their children play in the woods. She can be seen pushing Louis gently on a swing while leaning against a tree. Playing cards with Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, brings the family joyous moments. In a heartwarming moment, Kate lets go of a butterfly in her hands as she and William unwind on a blanket on the beach with their dog close by.

For the whole of 2024, the Princess of Wales has remained mainly out of the spotlight. Following a scheduled abdominal surgery in January, Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy in a heartfelt video message on March 22. Only twice this year has she been spotted in an official capacity: on June 15 at Trooping the Colour and on July 14 at Wimbledon, where she was accompanied by her sister Pippa Middleton and daughter Princess Charlotte.

 

While Kate enjoys “good days,” the difficulties of chemotherapy have also brought about difficult days, she wrote in a statement posted in June that was accompanied by a photo taken beneath a tree at Windsor. In her video speech from March, she said that she still finds “a deep sense of joy” in her profession, and that this summer, Kate worked from Adelaide Cottage at home while undergoing cancer treatment.

To discuss future plans and stay up to date on her numerous royal initiatives, she has met often with her private secretary Tom White, assistant private secretary Natalie Burrows, and the Prince and Prince of Wales’ communications secretary Lee Thompson.

Over the summer, a source told PEOPLE, “It’s good not to feel under pressure and just take her time and have slow days if she needs to.”

 

After spending the summer with Kate, also 42, and their children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, Prince William, 42, returned to public service on September 5.

After spending much of the summer at their Norfolk country home, Anmer Hall, and some time at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where Kate was spotted driving to church at Crathie Kirk on August 25, the three children went back to school the same week that their father started his job again.

He continued, “She will be back, but when you have had an experience like this, it changes your perspective and the order of things.”
